The Republic of Niger is a land-locked country in western Africa. It shares a border with Nigeria, Libya, Chad, Benin, Burkina Faso, Mali and Algeria. It is the largest country in West Africa and is named after the Niger River. Niger is situate don the edge of the Sahara desert and faces frequent drought and food security challenges. In recent years, Niger has also been plagued by Jihadist attacks. It is rated by the UN as one of the world’s least developed nations.
