Since the discovery and exploitation of oil and gas, foreign direct investment flows to Mauritania have been steadily growing. Mauritania has nevertheless a huge potential for investments outside the mining sector, which remains largely untapped in economic activities such as the agri-food business, the manufacturing of products derived from livestock, oil derived products as well as trade in general.
To allow the use of this potential and put an end to the recurring problems that impede economic development, the government’s policies are largely aimed at strengthening the strategic sectors.
